INTRO TO BRUSH CALLIGRAPHY: PART 1
Learn the art of brush calligraphy in this comprehensive class! Your teacher Sarah Ward will instruct you to the basic techniques involved in creating the thick and thin lines typified in brush calligraphy, help you learn the lowercase letterforms so you can hone your alphabet and create beautiful pieces of lettering art!
We have developed a calligraphy workbook that we’ll work off of during the class and all your calligraphy supplies will be provided. If you’re interested in pointed pen calligraphy, this is a great complimentary class as it will apply the same techniques with a different medium.
We keep our class sizes small so you can receive personalized instruction and feedback.

INTRO TO MODERN CALLIGRAPHY PART 2: CAPITAL LETTERS
The follow up to the popular Modern Calligraphy class, Part 2 will build on the press and release techniques learned in Part 1. This class is for anyone who has taken a brush or pointed pen calligraphy class and learned the lower case alphabet and is ready to take their calligraphy to the next level.
In this class, your teacher Sarah Ward will introduce the uppercase alphabet and help you hone the letterforms so you can confidently create your own calligraphy art.
Calligraphy supplies will be provided.

INTRO TO MODERN CALLIGRAPHY: DESIGN A TYPOGRAPHY QUOTE
You’ve learned the calligraphy alphabet, now what? Let’s get down to brass tacks and look at the technique for connecting letters to string them together into words and phrases.
In this class we’ll review calligraphy lowercase alphabet, practice the technique for stringing letters together to create words, then learn the basics in design techniques. For our class project each student will take a short phrase and create a typography design with it. Think of a meaningful short phrase (5 words or less) that you can play around with in class! Your teacher Sarah will give you feedback and critiques to support you in honing your design.
We will have a variety of mediums for you to play with to create your quote including watercolors, brushes, pencil crayons, dip ink, and Tombow markers.
Preliminary Class: Introductory calligraphy class to be familiar with the lowercase alphabet.
What will be provided in class:
- Tombow pen, pencil and eraser
- Paper supplies
- Light refreshments
- A calligraphy quote to take home
What to bring:

WATERCOLOR CALLIGRAPHY
Watercolor calligraphy is taking Instagram by storm! In this class we’re going to break out of the box and learn to blend watercolor paints to create beautiful ombre lettering art.
We will start by reviewing pressure / release technique common to pointed pen and brush calligraphy, then experiment with blending colors. Each participant will make a watercolor calligraphy print to take home with them.
All the materials will be provided for you to take home to continue with your calligraphy experience. Stay after class for our monthly “Chocalligraphy” calligraphy at Fran’s Chocolates and practice your new skills!

“CHOCALLIGRAPHY” CALLIGRAPHY MEETUP
CHOCALLIGRAPHY, VERB: THE ACT OF DOING CALLIGRAPHY WHILE CONSUMING CHOCOLATE.
To really master a skill, you need to get the technique deep into your cells and the only way to do that is practice. Join us for a monthly calligraphy club where we’ll gather to practice, share and get constructive feedback to enhance our letter-forms. A great way to meet new friends, learn about new materials, and cultivate your calligraphy skills!

Are you enraptured by images of modern calligraphy you see on Pinterest? Come learn the traditional art of pointed pen calligraphy with a modern twist in this comprehensive class! Your instructor Sarah Ward will teach you the techniques involved in creating thick and thin lines so you can create beautiful calligraphy art! This class will focus on creating lowercase letter-forms with the traditional pointed pen and ink.

HOW TO FAKE CALLIGRAPHY
INTRODUCTORY HANDLETTERING CLASS
If you’ve always wanted to learn calligraphy but are intimidated by ink pots and nibs, join us for How to Fake Calligraphy with calligrapher and stylist Sarah Ward. You’ll learn clever shortcuts for how to fake calligraphy using materials you have just lying around! During the class we’ll learn hand lettering basics, practice the lowercase alphabet, and make a print for Valentine’s Day. We keep class sizes small so you get the personalized attention you need to beautify your lettering.

TEACHER BIO
She took her first calligraphy class in the 6th grade and fell in love with lettering. In college she studied Visual Design where she honed her design instincts, and calligraphy provides the perfect opportunity to blend her design and education background (she taught piano for 10 years).
A few years ago Sarah rediscovered modern calligraphy and studied under renown calligrapher and hand letterer Molly Jacques. Sarah teaches her students established lettering techniques in an engaging and interactive environment. Sarah’s teaching style is warm, demonstrative, and informative and she receives rave reviews from her students.
